Day 341 - Christmas Skirt

Maddie loves skirts so Mum made her one out of some left over Christmas fabric and she has worn it almost every day since. Today I had managed to not have it on her, but when Mum popped around with one for Grace she insisted on wearing hers over her pants. Not a great look but she was pretty happy with her fashion.

Day 340 - A Wiggly Goodbye

The Wiggles Celebration tour came to Canberra today so we could farewell the original line up of the band. It was a sad day for me, as the Wiggle's have been part of my life for so long, first with Amy, then the kids at Malkara, the kids I worked with as a Carer and finally with Maddie who adores them. I even teared up at the end when we had to wave goodbye to them, and pretended I was teary as Maddie stood on my toes. The excuses I come up with to try cover my emotional craziness.

Maddie loved the concert and spent the first part of it dancing to the songs and singing along. Then she sat on Claire's or Leah's lap and watched the rest while she ate. At the end Maddie tried to escape while I filmed the closing music mash up but thankfully Claire and Simon were on it, I think she was hoping to runaway with the Wiggles in their Big Red Car.

I wasn't pleased that there was so much of the new line up involved in the concert as I was there to see the 'old' guys, but Maddie seemed to like them just as much. The two new men sound and look OK, although I really am not convinced that they will need so much muscle. I was really not a fan of Emma's singing, it was horrible and hopefully does not sound like that in the new line up.

The trip to the concert was absolute chaos, I thought that it would only take us about half an hour to get there, and expected to be entertaining bored kids for ages before it started. But we actually got inside about 20 minutes late and the show started another 5 minutes after that. Boy was I wrong on how long it would take to get in. Even the Brumbies never had that kind of traffic when they were playing in town.

Sunday

Day 339 - Reindeer Poo

As part of Nathan's Christmas present I am doing the Spouse's Christmas Countdown that I found via Pinterest. I did something similar for Gemma and Melissa, having tasks for them to do each day, and also for Nathan's Nan, who has gotten a little gift and a photo of Maddie everyday. Today's Gift for some of the people was Reindeer Poo which I thought was just too funny not to include.

I woke up with such a scare when I heard Santa call...
"Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!"
I ran to the lawn, and in the snowy white drifts,
those nasty reindeer had left "little gifts".

I got an old shovel and started to scoop
Neat little piles of "reindeer poop."
but to throw them away seemed such a waste,
So I saved them, thinking you might like a taste!

As I finished my task, which took quite a while,
Old Santa passed by and he sheepishly smiled.
And I heard him exclaim as he rose to the sky
"Well, they're not potty trained, but at least they can fly!"

Day 338 - Wardrobe Doors

Check! Something can be crossed off the list today, Maddie's new wardrobe doors were installed by a very tall guy from Regency. Today's worker left me wondering if Regency purposely hire tall people so that they don't need to use ladders, a definite bonus for insurance. It only took about half an hour to cut everything to size and install it, which I was stunned by, but I am happy with how they turned out. I think they make it look like an even bigger wardrobe than it already is, which is exciting, once there are some more shelves in I can start filling it with Maddie's things and empty out her current cupboard so we can dismantle it ready for work on the en suite.

Day 337 - Powerpoint Present

One of the things on my wish list for my birthday was a power point out the front with the intention of having some Christmas lights up. It doesn't look like the lights will happen this year, but I did get my power point which will be awesome when we get the front yard all sorted out and a door in the dining room. Poor Geoff had to work around the Maple tree that is coming out though, so I do feel a little bad that we hadn't already removed it. Doesn't it look awesome though, and he also changed the internal one into a double power point. I know small things, but I am pretty pleased with this present.

DAY 336- Christmas!!

Yay, its the start of the Christmas season and we can finally put up the Christmas tree. While Nathan was at work this morning Maddie and I assembled the tree, fluffed it up and strung the lights on it, which took all morning. Then When Nathan came home we finally started the decorating listening to the carols of one of the Country Christmas Cd's that Leah made up as part of Nathans Christmas countdown gifts. Decorating was much more fun this year as Maddie was a lot more enthusiastic with helping, here she is pondering if the bauble she put up first was in the right spot. We always start with the one that Karyn got for her first Christmas and make her put it on while I take crazy amounts of photos. I didn't manage to get any that I was overly pleased with this year though.

Day 335 - OMG COOL!!!

The Lovely Leah made me a couple of Christmas Cd's today to make my gift for Nathans Day 1 easier. Tonight is the first time that I have ever used the CD player and I have to say that it is awesome! It took me ages to work out how it opened though, I tried prying it open with my fingers, pressing random buttons, I even wondered if I had somehow missed a stacker somewhere else in the car. Turns out the screen flips out, and you insert the Cd's in behind it. I've always loved my Mazda but tonight it got a lot cooler.

Day 334 - Aww

Another one of Maddie asleep. This is how she was laying when I went in to tuck her in tonight as I went to bed. It's very cute. Lucky we have Maddie otherwise I would have had to find something else to take a photo of.

Day 333 - Dirty

Maddie loves to play in the dirt, bark, sand, basically anything that ends up with her being so dirty that I am tempted to go and hose her off. Today we met Leah and Grace at the park for a play where the girls got to play with Maddie's new car buckets. Yes we have buckets and spades in the car for her now, so that when we do go to the park when she gets bored of the equipment she can dig. The park here is awesome for the little kids but I do think the highlight today was digging for Maddie. She doesn't look very happy that we are leaving the park here.

Saturday

Day 332 - YUMMMMM

When we were across at Ali & Chris' last time, Ali made this awesome water. I'm totally addicted to it now and drink it all the time. It is so pretty and easy to make too, its just strawberries, mint and water. I will have to make it in my jug next time so it looks prettier.

Wednesday

Day 331 - Ouch

We never use our back door, so we never use our back steps, but today I thought that I should reconnect the grey water hose to try keep some green in the front lawn over summer. Well that was a stupid idea!! As I walked down the step I heard a bit of a crunch but didn't think anything of it, so I connected the hose and walked back up them only to almost go through this step. Turns out it has rotted through and I should go back to clean eating. I'm not sure what hurt more, the grazed arm and knee, the sore wrist or the very bruised ego. Gosh it would have been great to have caught my trip on video.

Day 330 - Pretty

How pretty is this tree! It is hidden in the car park that's behind the Tourist pub, and looks totally out of place surrounded by big ugly buildings. Mark tells me that its not pretty to hay fever sufferers, which must mean I'm one of the few people who likes it. I wish I had of had my real camera with me to take a better picture of it.

Day 329 - Neighbourhood BBQ

Tonight we caught up with the neighbours for a BBQ at Chris and Ali's. The kids all played really well together despite their age differences. I cant decide if Ali's strawberry and mint water was better than any of the amazing salads she had made. Gosh it was yummy, I know what I'm going to be buying.

Day 328 - Shopping

Tonight Nathan finally got to see the new Kmart store that has opened up out here. I love having one so close by it makes my Christmas crafting so much easier and it is always quiet in there, probably not what Kmart was aiming for. I love this picture of the two of them walking side by side and Maddie tugging the basket that is almost bigger than her. If only she was holding his hand like she was told too, she is way too independent for my liking.

Day 327 - Stalker

Since we cut down the tree that these birds had been building a nest in, we see them a lot. First it was for days as they seemed to glare at us whenever we walked outside, now its just like they drop in for a visit. They seem to be getting almost tame as this guy or girl walked up to me and stopped less than a Meter away before giving me the once over and continuing its walk. I'm not a fan of birds, but these guys are growing on me.

Day 326 - Swimming Lesson's

Mum had today off work so she took Maddie to swimming lessons. I am hoping that Maddie is more confident in the pool this year and doesn't need me to hop into mum's pool with her when she wants to swim. Maddie and Mum did really well, thankfully Maddie didn't even ask for me. Mum was so much kinder to Maddie and didn't make her work nearly as hard as I do.

Day 325 - Prints

Today Hugh and Grace (and their mothers) came around to do some painting. The plan was to do hand and footprints again for the Christmas collection which we have been doing for all of their Christmas's but I didn't know how well they would co-operate this year. When I asked if they wanted to paint they all said yes and came and grabbed a brush off me and walked in a line to the drop sheet.

I was pretty impressed with how they did, especially as none of them have ever painted. I am loving the tracks we have from each of them running up a strip of paper, it was an awesome idea of Leah's, and looks cool hanging over our hallway door. I am thinking it might look cool printed onto a wall one day in the playroom.

Saturday

Day 324 - Bargain

After picking Nathan up from the airport we went to play at Leah's to kill some time before taking Nathan lunch. As the Chinese shop was closed he told me not to worry so we went shopping instead. Leah showed us this awesome package she picked up for $20 so we had to go get one.
Maddie did the whole outing without a nappy and only one very very fast dash to a toilet.

Friday

Day 323 - Gross

Amy stayed the night last night as she decided she didn't want to go out after the Canberra College Play. Waiting up for a teenager is a different experience, I should have just given her keys!
Photo is of her gross arm blister from being out in the sun playing AFL for too long

Wednesday

Day 322 - Caving

We went to Bredbo this morning for another look around. The Morgan's finally caved and came out to have a look too. They were overwhelmed by all of the glitter but Grace seemed to enjoy it, as did Hugh, Claire and her friend. Maddie and Mum seemed to enjoy having the play at the park together.

Day 321 - Light Meal?

I meant to make a light meal for Nathan before he flew out tonight but got a little carried away. At least my plate was more salad than meat unlike Nathan's. I love my feta stuffed olives that I brought to go with it, crazy to think that before I fell pregnant with Maddie I thought olives were gross.

Day 320 - Misplaced Blame

Tonight the Internet was running super slowly while I was trying to blog, so I blamed Blogger. When I did a speed test for the first time it showed that our modem really needed resetting. A few speed tests later this is the awesome result that I got.

Sunday

Day 319 - Flights

Nathan flies out to Melbourne to spend the weekend with Kim on Friday. I sent him this picture of his flight details for him to be able to organise getting to and from the airport, but he still wanted me to re email all the paperwork for more details. What more could you want. To know there is a return flight I suppose.

Saturday

Day 318 - Stridor

Maddie woke up with croup at 1130 last night and within a few minutes added Stridor to it. I thought it was asthma so we gave her some Ventolin which did seem to calm it a little but Nathan said she needed to go to hospital and he was right. Maddie's little airways were closing over it was pretty scary. We spent about 4 hours in hospital but Maddie was better as soon as she had the steroids and the oxygen with adrenaline. Hopefully it's not something that happens again, but we have to keep steroids on hand for her just in case.

Photo is from Nathan's phone as she had mine. It's the best I could manage as the rest of the time she was attached to me or crying.

Friday

Day 317 - Construction Begins

Today is the day that construction finally begins on our extension. As calm as I have been about it in the lead up to today, I am actually really nervous about today's work. There are so many things that can potentially go wrong and Nathan can't be here to help deal with it.

I'm not convinced that I slept last night, but I feel OK, maybe a little more jittery than normal, bordering on hyperactive, and I haven't even had a coffee. I got up at 630 so I can be ready for the digger to arrive some time between 7.00 and 7.30, I don't ever get up this early!! We finished pegging the piers out last night so I took a quick photo of all of our spots this morning, ready for work to begin.

We hired Damien from 'City-Concrete' to organise our digging and cementing of the piers, and he was the first to arrive. Having not met Damien, Nathan was quite nervous about the whole process, especially as the contractor to do the digging turned up unexpectedly on Saturday with a giant tractor and told us there were only 15 holes to dig (there were 28). He also decided he couldn't do the work so he would call one of his friends to come do it, who had never worked with Damien before. On Sunday John from 'John Mccauley Bobcat Excavations & Tipper Hire' turned up to have a look and sounded nervous about the size of his little bobcat, but decided that he could do the job.

After a fair bit of talking about how to do the least damage to our driveway the bobcat was finally taken off the truck and driven into the yard for digging. The first three holes required us to use the 400x400 square pads rather than the easier piers as the sewer was right near them. In the very first hole that John is digging they did actually expose the side of the pipe, but no damage done and the first obstacle that I was stressed about was avoided. Next to start was the boring out of the 300x500 pier holes for the rest of the extension.

Surprisingly there is very little mess from all of the dirt being moved around, I had envisioned something similar to a muddy sludge taking over the back yard, but the men worked well together and seemed to get just about every bit of loose dirt there was loaded straight onto the truck.

I realise that we do pay these guys to do their jobs properly, but I was shocked to walk out to find Damien checking every single hole as they were dug for the correct depth and width. I even came out a few times to see him shoulder deep shovelling loose dirt out with his hands. There was some panic when they uncovered some ceramic type stuff in one of the holes, with frantic digging with hands happening to ensure that there wasn't a pipe in the area, and the same when they hit a tree root from the old apricot tree. I must have some kind of weird 6th sense as I made it outside to see all of these things happening. Amazingly the pipes and cords for the sheds power and water were not hit in all the digging, and the pipe that we think is down there somewhere for a back sprinkler wasn't a problem either.

All of the dirt was removed from the yard with a wheelbarrow, up the ramp and onto the truck. I can't imagine how hard this was to actually do. I'm still in awe that this is how it was all removed just to save our driveway. It only took about three hours to complete the digging and dirt removal part of the job, with the biggest problem being that I didn't paint one of the posts that we had pegged out. We are lucky that they were keeping count as they went, as when he said 27 I was like Oh no what have we missed. Thankfully that was the biggest hurdle of the day, and there was actually a peg in place.

While we were waiting for the council to arrive I took Maddie outside for a look and play. These holes for the concrete pads were an awesome size for hiding in, which Maddie thought was just awesome. She was less keen on the smaller pier holes, but still didn't want to be taken out.

The council came at about 230 to measure all the holes and give us the certificate to say that it was OK for us to start filling them. First test passed! I am sure uni exams weren't this nerve wracking.
Once Phil had left I called Damien so he could organise the concrete to arrive at 3. It turns out that today, 3 actually equals 4, so an entire hour was lost waiting for the truck to arrive. I can not imagine how frustrating that must be for contractors.

The concrete was all poured, again via wheelbarrow within half an hour, then another half an hour to smooth it all out on the top of the piers and pads. This must have been the fastest part of the whole job, and certainly the less worrisome for us as there was so little that could go wrong. There was just enough concrete left over after filling all the holes to fix the paver's on the driveway that had been knocked out by the guy who ground the tree stumps out, which was done at no extra charge.

If the rest of the extension goes as smoothly as today did, it should be a fairly good experience after all, for me anyway. I'm not so sure Nathan would agree seeing as he has to do the most of it and listen to me tell him what needs doing when and where all the time.

Wednesday

Day 316 - Queanbeyan Show

This morning we met the Morgans at the show for a quick look around. Nathan knowing just about everyone in Canberra and Queanbeyan paid off when we got to the petting zoo, as the girls got loads of attention and time with the animals. Maddie loved holding the baby rabbit, duck and chicken. Then Maddie went on some more rides and we remembered that Maddie inherited Nathan's daredevil tendencies. All of us adults were terrified when the cars took off but Maddie loved them and even asked to go on them again. It was an awesome day out that took a lot more time that we thought, so we slacked off all afternoon instead of building the wardrobe.

Monday

Day 315 - Pintrest Strikes Again

I'm sick again so we did nothing today. I even forgot to take photos. This one is a screen shot is off Pinterest. What an awesome snowman.

Day 314 - Visitor

We are watching Cinder tonight and Tomorrow while Karyn and Mark are away, and the regular dog sitters duck up to Sydney for a horse race. Both girls look quite happy on Nathan's lap.

Friday

Day 313 - Success, I think

We had a big day of toilet training today, which was exhausting for us both. Maddie seems to need to wee every half hour at the maximum now which I suppose is progress on yesterday. She even asked to go once today. We only had one accident all day but I did put her in a nappy to sleep and for her trip out with grandma.

Thursday

Day 312 - Ready

When Maddie woke from her nap today she decided that it was time for her to start using the toilet instead of a Nappy. In 2.5 hours she weed 6 times on the toilet and had two accidents, that's a lot of trips to the bathroom. I can't believe we are really up to this.. I wonder if she will still be interested in the morning.

Day 311 - Yummo!

I saw this on Pinterest today. Bananas and walnuts frozen. Doesn't it look yummy

Day 310 - Shopping

This morning we visited masters and Rodney's with Leah and grace. The girls were pretty well behaved, first pushing their baby trolleys before deciding that they wanted a ride. Then sitting quietly in the car trolley eating their lollipops, before sitting on a Rodney's trolley while I looked for trees for the cut out in our new deck to be. It was a lovely day out

Sunday

Day 309 - Wardrobe

Today the Morgan's popped over so that Simon could help Nathan sort out what is happening with the wardrobe. The girls played well together and Nathans BBQ was awesome, although he found it a little warm cooking out on the paver's. We managed to get 16 of the 28 piers marked out for the extension and Nathan and Mark welded the pole extensions for Maddie's area to have a sail up. Another productive day, but I think poor Nathan is missing his weekend, and may even be looking forward to going to work and having a break tomorrow.

Saturday

Day 308 - Slave Labour

Poor Nathan, work all morning, come home and work all afternoon.

Today Nathan got up early to help with lifting the AC unit out of the way, went to work, put some hay bales in place, cut down the clothesline, helped me remove some old watering system, lengthened the poles around Maddie's Turf for a sail, took a load of rubbish to the tip, exposed the outside beams on the house so we could check measurements and lined the back of the wardrobe in the study. Wow, when you type it all out, he sure was a busy man today! It is awesome achieving so much, but we are all exhausted now.

Day 307 - Progress

Today held the visit from the Surveyor to mark the corners that we need for the extensions to begin. Its pretty exciting that we are getting some steps happening and a little surreal being able to stand in what will be our new bedroom eventually. Looking at the house pegged out the small room does look really very small, which we are a little worried about, and our room looks awesomely huge. Is awesomely even a word?

Maddie was playing with play dough while I tackled some of Nathan's ironing today, and making different shapes. She insisted that this one was a Dinosaur and spent ages making it walk around and making roaring sounds. I'm pretty sure Maddie could roar with the best of the Dinosaurs around now.

Tonight I took Diesel to the vet as his cut isn't healing and as I had separated him from the others he was crying 24/7. Hopefully with the antibiotics his wound will heal and I wont have to separate him again. Even though I have been given sedatives for him, apparently with cats, more often than not they don't actually work. Poor Diesel pretty much passed out as soon as we got home, I'm not convinced that he has slept in the last couple of days while he was away from the others and I am amazed that the neighbours didn't complain about his meowing. My gosh he is loud.

Day 306 - Fruit

Hugh and Grace and their parents came around for a little play today. The kids played happily together for three hours until they were all tired and needed a sleep. Photo is of the plate of fruit that I cut up for them, I think I may have gone a little overboard. I also cant believe how much fruit we have as that isn't even one of everything that we have in the fridge.

Day 305 - Ta Da!

After swimming today we met Grace and Leah at Majura Park for a play at Michelle's. The girls are still a bit small for playing there which worked to my advantage as Maddie couldn't climb up. Unfortunately for Leah, (who helped Grace the first time) Grace climbed all the way to the top before discovering that she couldn't get down. Apparently the slide is super steep and fast (or so Leah says) and the drops between levels are a bit much for a 2 year old, which meant Leah had to go up and perform a rescue. When they finally made it to the bottom level Grace took off, lent on the car and said Ta Da! Like she had done all the work herself. It was very cute!
